Leaving Ashland, OR 66 immediately climbs a series of tight, rhythmic hairpins that gain roughly 2,500 ft in a handful of miles — our own measured high point of 4,695 ft lines up almost exactly with Ashland's own elevation (about 1,900 ft) plus that climb. 119 counted bends over 59 miles at a 2.0 per mile density, narrower and tighter than Dead Indian Memorial Road nearby, with thin guardrail above Tyler Creek Canyon on the way up. This is consistently recommended in motorcycle touring communities as one of the best roads in southern Oregon, often paired with a stop at the Green Springs Inn partway up. Hyatt Prairie Road branches off near the inn if you want to cut across to Dead Indian Memorial Road instead of running the whole highway to Klamath Falls.
